The 6.5% everyone quotes is one of four charges, and it is not the one that surprises people. Etsy applies the transaction fee to the shipping the buyer paid as well as the item, payment processing adds 3% plus $0.25 on the same total, the $0.20 listing fee is charged again every time a sold listing renews, and an Offsite Ads order takes a further 15% of the whole thing. This calculator adds all four, then subtracts materials and postage so the figure on screen is what reaches your bank.

Worked examples
A $25 item with $6 shipping charged to the buyer
$14.61 net profit
Etsy charges on the full $31, not the $25: $2.02 transaction, $1.18 processing and $0.20 listing, so $3.40 in total. That is a real rate of 10.95%, not 6.5%. After $8 of materials and $5 of postage, $14.61 is left.

The 15% Offsite Ads fee adds $4.65, taking Etsy's total to $8.05 and the real rate to 25.95%. The identical order now nets $9.95 instead of $14.61. Shops over $10,000 in the last 365 days pay 12% instead of 15%, but cannot opt out.

Questions sellers ask
How much does Etsy take from a $100 sale?
$9.95 on a $100 item with free shipping: $6.50 transaction fee, $3.00 plus $0.25 payment processing, and the $0.20 listing fee. Charge $12 shipping on top and Etsy takes $11.09, because the transaction and processing fees both apply to shipping. An Offsite Ads order adds 15% of the order total on top of that.
How do I calculate Etsy fees?
Take the item price plus the shipping the buyer paid, multiply by 9.5% to cover the 6.5% transaction fee and 3% processing, then add $0.25 for processing and $0.20 for the listing renewal. That is the floor. Add 15% of the same total if the order came from Offsite Ads, which is the single biggest swing in Etsy's schedule.
How much do Etsy take in fees?
Between roughly 10% and 12% of the order total on an ordinary sale, once the flat fees are spread across it, and around 26% on an Offsite Ads order. The percentage is worse on cheap items because $0.45 of flat fees is a bigger share of a $8 sale than a $80 one. Etsy Plus, at $10 a month, is a separate subscription and not counted here.
Does Etsy charge a $29 fee?
There is no $29 fee in Etsy's published US schedule. A $29 charge on a statement is almost always accumulated fees — listing renewals, transaction and processing fees from the month — billed together, or a shop in a country where Etsy charges a one-off set-up fee.
