Etsy Profit Calculator
CheckedThe Etsy profit calculator puts price, fees, materials, postage, ads and your own time into one number: what an order really earns. Free, no sign-up, and the result updates as you type.
Enter your numbers
Most Etsy shops that look profitable are paying their owner nothing. Materials and postage get counted, the fees get counted, and the two hours spent making the thing are treated as free, which is why a shop can run for a year and never produce a wage. Labour is a required input here, not an optional one. The break-even price shows what you would need to charge to cover everything including your own time, and the monthly figure turns the per-order number into something you can compare to a job.

How it's calculated
Profit per order = (price + shipping charged) × (1 − (transaction % + payment %) ÷ 100) − payment flat fee − listing fee − materials − labour − your shipping − ads

Worked examples
A handmade item at $28 with free shipping, 60 orders a month
$5.89 profit per order
Etsy takes $3.11 and the order costs $19.00 to fulfil once labour is counted, leaving $5.89 on a 21.0% margin. Sixty orders a month is $353.40. Break-even is $21.49, so the $28 price has only $6.51 of headroom — a $5 coupon would wipe out most of the profit.

The same item at $34 with $6 shipping charged separately
$16.75 profit per order
The buyer pays $40, so Etsy's cut rises to $4.25 — $1.14 more. Profit per order nearly triples to $16.75 and the month goes from $353.40 to $1,005.00. Free shipping is the most expensive thing in the first example, not the fees.

Questions sellers ask
How much does Etsy take from a $1000 sale?
$95.45 on a $1,000 item with free shipping: $65 transaction fee, $30 plus $0.25 processing and the $0.20 listing fee. That is 9.5% of the order total plus $0.45. If the order came through Offsite Ads, add another $100, the most Offsite Ads can charge on one order, and Etsy's share rises to about 19.5% of the sale.
How do I estimate my Etsy profit?
Start with the order total the buyer pays, take off 9.5% plus $0.45 for Etsy, then subtract materials, postage, ad spend and your own labour at a real hourly rate. The labour line is the one that decides whether a shop is a business or a hobby. Anything left is profit; divide it by the order total for margin and by the hours worked for an effective wage.
Can you make $10,000 a month on Etsy?
It takes volume that most shops never reach. At the $5.89 per order in the first example above, $10,000 a month means about 1,700 orders — roughly 57 a day, every day. At the $16.75 of the second example it is 597 orders. That gap is the whole argument for raising prices rather than chasing more sales, since the fee structure is proportional and your time is not.
Is Etsy still profitable in 2026?
Per order, yes — the fee structure has not moved much and a well-priced handmade item still clears 20% to 40%. The pressure is on traffic, not fees: Etsy Ads costs and the 15% Offsite Ads charge mean a growing share of orders arrive with an extra cut taken out. Run your own numbers with ad spend included rather than on the headline 6.5%.
How do I price my Etsy items?
Price up from break-even, not down from what competitors charge. Add materials, labour, postage and expected ad spend, add the flat fees, then divide by 0.905 to cover the 9.5% Etsy takes. In the first example above that gives $21.49, and anything you want as actual profit sits on top of that number — which is how a $28 price comes to make sense.
