Two details decide whether a low-priced product survives FBA, and neither is the 15% referral rate. Amazon charges the greater of the percentage and a $0.30 per-item minimum, so below about $2 the percentage stops mattering at all. And storage is billed per cubic foot every month the unit sits in the warehouse, which means a slow seller pays that fee three or four times before it ever ships. This calculator charges the minimum where it applies and multiplies storage by the months you actually hold stock.

How it's calculated

Amazon fees = greater of (price × referral rate ÷ 100) and the minimum referral fee, + fulfilment fee + (cubic feet × storage rate × months held)

Worked examples

Example 1

A $24.99 standard-size unit that turns over in two months

$7.91 net profit

The referral fee is $3.75, fulfilment $4.76 and storage $0.12 — $8.63 in total, a real fee rate of 34.5%. Fulfilment now costs more than the referral cut, and it does not shrink when you discount. After $8.45 of landed cost, $7.91 is left on a 31.6% margin.

Example 2

A $1.99 accessory under 2 oz sitting in the warehouse for six months

-$1.82 net profit

15% of $1.99 is $0.2985, a fraction under the $0.30 per-item minimum, so Amazon charges the minimum instead. Amazon still takes $2.96 — the $2.52 fulfilment fee, Amazon's lowest, is bigger than the sale. Every unit loses $1.82, a real fee rate of 148.8%. This is the shape of every cheap FBA product: the fees are close to fixed and the price is not.

Questions sellers ask

How much are FBA fees usually?

Between roughly 30% and 40% of the selling price on a typical $20 to $30 standard-size product: 15% referral plus about $3.40 to $5 of fulfilment for a unit under a pound, plus a few cents of storage. The percentage climbs sharply as the price falls, because fulfilment is driven by size and weight rather than value. On a $10 item the same fees are closer to 50%.

How are Amazon FBA fees calculated?

Three separate charges. The referral fee is a percentage of the total sale price, 15% in most categories, with a $0.30 per-item minimum. The fulfilment fee is read off a size-and-weight table, and since January 2026 it also steps up with the selling price: under $10, $10 to $50, and over $50. A 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge is added on top. Storage is cubic feet per unit multiplied by the monthly rate, billed for every month the unit is in the network.

How do I calculate Amazon FBA fees?

Measure the packed unit, divide length × width × height in inches by 1,728 for cubic feet, and weigh it. The weight gives you the fulfilment tier, the cubic feet give you the storage bill, and the category gives you the referral rate. Multiply storage by the months of cover you hold, not by one — that is the step almost everyone skips.

How much will Amazon's FBA fees be in 2026?

The figures used here were checked against Amazon's rate card on 2026-09-27: 15% referral in most categories, a $0.30 minimum, and $4.60 fulfilment for a large-standard unit of 12–16 oz priced $10 to $50, plus the 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge added on 17 April 2026, so $4.76. The same unit is $3.78 under $10 and $4.86 over $50 before the surcharge. From 15 October 2026 to 14 January 2027 peak rates apply — $4.89 for this unit, $5.06 with the surcharge — and storage rises from $0.78 to $2.40 per cubic foot from October to December, so a Q4 forecast should use both higher rates.

Is FBA still profitable in 2026?

For products above about $20, yes — the first example clears 31.6% after every fee. Below $10 the arithmetic stops working, as the second example shows, because fulfilment and storage barely move with price. The practical rule is that FBA rewards higher-priced, smaller, faster-moving stock, and punishes cheap bulky items that sit.
